Once a year, Keller Williams International has a RED Day. This is a day meant for strictly community service and giving back to the communities that foster our businesses in order to be good neighbors.
This year, RED Day happened on May 12. The weather was perfect for an event like this and we met at the open land near 25th & Reed streets of Point Breeze to create planter boxes so the local community has better access to healthy vegetables and fruits at a lower cost by growing them. This initiative could not have been done without the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society & their City Harvest Program.
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Torey (some call me "T") and I help urbanites interested in real estate connect the dot's between what they think they know and what they really need to know to be successful in today's markets. I also have a passion for building businesses too.
When this event was initially explained to me my initial reaction was quite negative. I didn't think it would be wise for me to volunteer because I am in a heavy growth phase with my real estate business. My personal ideals hold me to the belief that I must be able to take care of myself before I help others. I think this because if I am not taking care of myself mentally and physically; how can I truly be there for someone when they need me?
After a bit of thinking, I decided to re-arrange my schedule and build this day in. The lesson I learned looking back is to not just say no and think things through a bit more and keep an open mind.
Moving forward, next time RED Day comes around, I hope to be in a more stable or predictable place with my sales business. I am putting in the work now to really leave my impact when I have the resources to do so.
You have heard from me, now tell me something: What do you do to give back to the community?
