Ways to make your bathroom eco-friendly

Most people are aware that we should drastically change our habits. If we, instead, continue wasting resources like there’s no tomorrow, we will soon find out that there is no Planet B. The governments of the world's most powerful countries have finally come to senses, but it is not enough. We still advance toward extinction, just not as fast.

What can we do in this dire situation? Try our best, and pray that it is enough. In a second you’ll learn what you can do to make your bathroom more eco-friendly. Of course, if you’ll be the only person that starts doing things differently, it won’t change a thing. This is why it is essential to raise awareness about this critical subject. Let’s go!

Use natural materials

You should choose fixtures made from organic materials. There won’t be any harm done to the environment during their production, and after you are done using them, they are easy to recycle. And let’s be honest - wood and stone will make your bathroom look more magnificent! If you have no idea what fixtures to buy, then check out www.renovatorstore.com.au/bathroom.html, and perhaps you will find some inspiration.

Choose LED bulbs

Lights are not the first thing that comes to mind when trying to make your bathroom more eco-friendly, but they are responsible for a significant part of your electricity bill. It means that if you choose lights that are more energy-efficient, you’ll be saving the planet, but also your electricity bill will decrease! Additionally, the lifespan of LED lights is several times longer, and they don’t contain any toxic elements. There’s no reason not to choose them.

Choose a glass shower screen

Shower curtain liners are bad for the environment. You cannot recycle them, and when burned, they produce toxic smoke. That’s why your best bet is to choose a shower screen. You won’t have as much trouble cleaning it, and shower screens made from glass are easily recyclable.

Showers are superior!

Implementing this step may require more effort than the previous steps, but showers are considerably more friendly to the environment than bathtubs. You are likely to spend more time in a bathtub where you can just lie down and relax than when standing in a shower. It might be challenging to put an end to your long baths in steaming hot water, but if you want to give your children a chance to live on a life-supporting planet, learn to control yourself.

Leaky taps are your enemy!

Is your tap, or perhaps your shower leaking, not much, but just a bit? Fix it! You might think that a leaky tap couldn’t possibly be that bad, and you are right, but if we multiply the amount of water that’s being wasted by 1 million leaking taps, then suddenly things become serious. So stop procrastinating and fix the tap, it’s not that difficult!

Dual-flush toilets are your friends!

Dual-flush toilets aren’t some cutting edge invention; the chances are, you have one in your bathroom. They have two buttons to flush different amounts of water. Sometimes a small amount of water is just enough. Given the fact that we flush our toilets frequently, the amount of water that could be saved by installing this type of toilet is astonishing. If you have a regular type of a toilet instead, change it, unless you want to flush the future of our planet down the drain.

Eco-friendly products

You don’t need to break the bank to start using eco-friendly products. Washcloths made from organic cotton, toilet paper made from recycled paper and toothbrushes made from bamboo are neither more expensive nor worse quality than their counterparts that are not eco-friendly. All that you need is the awareness that choosing those products is better for the planet.

Water heaters

The older models of water heaters used to heat water even when no one was using them. To avoid unnecessary waste of water, choose a newer model that will only heat water once you turn on the hot water tap.

Natural toiletries

A lot of toiletries and beauty products are full of different chemicals. Apart from being bad for the environment, they can also be harmful to your skin, which is why choosing natural toiletries is a no-brainer. Alternatively, you could try making some beauty-products on your own - the internet is full of tutorials on how to do it. This way you’ll also save some money!

Going green

It may be initially pretty challenging to adopt certain eco-friendly habits. Some people couldn’t imagine life without taking long baths in hot water. It doesn’t mean, though, that you should take the path of least resistance.  Choosing products that have less adverse effects on our Mother Nature is not a fashion statement, something to brag about, but a way to mitigate the damage done by our species. Sure, if not enough people will change their ways, those efforts will be futile, but it doesn’t mean that it’s not worth trying. Each subsequent generation seems to care more about environmental issues, so perhaps there is still hope.
