In 1887, Robert W. Poindexter was granted title to the land that he named Moorpark from the Moorpark apricot which was largely farmed throughout the valley as well as peach orchards. Poindexter lined the downtown city streets with Pepper trees; many of the original Pepper trees he planted are still along High Street today.
