VENICE, FLA. (January 31, 2024) — Step back in time to Venice's Golden Age and discover a historic Mediterranean masterpiece at 326 Pedro Street, offered for $1,200,000. Meticulously preserved by the Venice Historical Society, the property is marketed exclusively by Jennifer Fisher and Laura Singer of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty’s Venice office. The listing details may be viewed here

Built in 1926 as part of the development by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and city planner John Nolen, the residence played a pivotal role during the Florida Land Boom of the 1920s. Architects Stewart Walker and Leon Gillette, insisted on Northern Italian characteristics in Mediterranean Revival Style for all structures, creating the marvel that still stands today.

In the wake of the Great Depression and the subsequent real estate downturn, the architectural landscape underwent a transformation, leaving few remnants of its former glory. However, thanks to the unwavering commitment of the Historic Venice Architectural Control District, 326 Pedro Street, a gem from Venice's heyday, has not only endured but thrived.

The Mediterranean bungalow was built for the accountant for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, J.M. Scott. H.N. “Bud” Wimmers, an original Venice councilman and the city’s first real estate agent, and his wife, Mildred then moved in with their daughter Patsy in 1942. They adored this property and cared for it for 33 years.

The residence boasts seven elongated arched windows. Original features include a coral rock fireplace with stones carried from Venice Beach daily during the construction, restored and rewired light fixtures and sconces, hardwood flooring, and plaster walls and ceilings.

The property spans 3,344 square feet with six bedrooms and five bathrooms across the main home and two additional buildings. The home has undergone tasteful restoration while maintaining its original character, including a major addition in the back and the installation of an antique brick paver courtyard between the main house and the garage building, which has an upstairs apartment.

The seller, Shari Valencic, has been a local teacher on Venice Island at both Venice Elementary and Venice High School for over 30 years and this home has been a labor of love. She raised her family here and documented the home's history for its future stewards. The addition in the back is the home of Fran Valencic, teacher in Venice and North Port for 20 years, columnist for the Gondolier Sun for over 30 years, writer and beloved Pillar of the Community.

"For nearly a century, 326 Pedro Street has been a residence for those dedicated to enriching and serving the Venice community," said Jennifer Fisher and Laura Singer. "The historical importance of this home in the context of Venice’s history is truly remarkable. We are honored to share the rich narrative of this home and eagerly anticipate welcoming the next caretaker who will continue the rich legacy of this exceptional residence."
