Congratulations! You just bought a new home. You’re excited, hopeful, nervous, and stressed. All you want to do is pack up all your furniture into the moving van and finish the job. After that, you want to curl up in exhaustion on the couch in your new home. There are a few more things, however, that you’ll need to do before you can completely take a break. Here are the first 5 things that you will need to do.
1. Get a Home Security System
The last thing you want to consider is having your brand-new home get robbed. Sadly though, new homes are a huge target for burglars because they know that home security systems usually aren’t set up. To prevent anything from happening, make sure that getting a security system is one of your top priorities. The U.S. Department of Justice reports that there are 3.7 million burglaries per year and 70% of them are to homes without a security system. If you can prevent 70% of the burglaries that would happen to your home, it’s worth it.
2. Look into a Home Warranty
A home warranty plan is extremely important for protecting your indoor investments like the appliances that you have. Since you usually have an appliance for several years, you tend to forget just how expensive each one is until it breaks and you need to get it replaced or repaired. A home warranty puts all your home appliances under warranty so that if anything ever breaks, you can get it repaired or replaced without pulling the money straight from your wallet. Having a home warranty is a convenient stress decreaser and allows you to sleep well without worrying about how you’ll replace any of your home appliances if and when they break down.
3. Get Pest Control
Depending on where you live, pest control can be a must-have. Each state has its annoying pest and no one wants to share their home with that pest. You would never want your child to walk over a nest of fire ants or for you to wake up sharing a bed with a scorpion. So get the bugs out. Check with the last homeowner to see if they had pest control to see how immediate your need is. If they haven’t had pest control before, then the house could have nests all around the base and you’ll need to be treated as soon as you can get it done. Make sure to look into all of the options that you have in your area. Most of the time different pest control companies will offer different deals and opportunities for you to get rid of the pests. You want to ensure that you get the package that you need to make sure that you and your family stay comfortable throughout all seasons of the year.
4. Give Your Home a Deep Clean
You don’t know how well the home was cleaned before you bought it or how long the home sat vacantly. Get out the vacuum and the mop and give your new home a thorough clean. If you haven’t put in any of the furniture yet, then your job is even easier. Hire a professional carpet cleaner to freshen your carpets and shine the hardwood floors. Clean and replace things that would be hard to clean or replace after the furniture gets moved in.
5. Check and Make Sure You Have Everything
Once you have all the furniture and belongings delivered, check and make sure. You don’t want your child’s favorite blanket to have been left in a crevice in your old home. Go through and do a check for the valuable things. Open up the boxes and inspect the glasses to make sure that everything has made is safe and sound.
Once you mark these 5 steps off the list, feel free to sit back and relax. You’ve done all the hard things and now you can enjoy your beautiful new home.
