The continuing trend lately has seen families and young professionals downsizing their living arrangements. This "minimalistic" movement seems to be more popular than ever as families are trending towards smaller homes and shared spaces. This lifestyle can pose a few problems for people who're used to having vast amounts of living space within their home. One particular area that seems to be suffering from lack of space is the bedroom. While most people are perfectly fine with coping with smaller bedroom space, they're also losing out on precious square footage that would otherwise serve as a storage, study and entertainment purposes.

However, all is not lost! There are a few things you can do to make your small bedroom look and feel much bigger than it actually is. One particular way to accomplish this, is with the addition of a loft bed. In the past year or so, loft bed sales have sored throughout the country. And this particular trend is due to the amount of young professionals giving up the detached home ownership option to studio apartment/condo living. Other reasons are due to families with children who are downsizing from large, more expensive homes to smaller, more compact houses. The other contributing factor is the growing popularity among students who are required to share college/university dorm rooms. Whatever the reason may be, families and individuals can benefit greatly with the addition of a loft bed in any room of the house.

For young professionals and students, a loft bed with desk is the perfect choice as it instantly adds a workspace/study area directly beneath the upper loft bunk. This space can also serve as an area for an additional desk or shelving for books or clothes. For couples, you'll be happy to know that there are many full/queen sized loft beds that are not only stylish and functional, but are sturdy enough to safely sleep two average sized adults. These are perfect for studio apartments or condos where space is extremely limited. When living a minimalistic lifestyle, one must be very creative to create functional, useable space in such a small, congested space.

Families with small children will be happy to know there are similar options as well! If your children are suddenly required to share bedroom space, a loft or bunk bed can not only provide ample sleeping space, but also provide extra storage and play space as well. The average twin sized bed take up approximately 24 square feet of space within the bedroom. With the addition of a loft bed, this space which is normally used up by the regular twin is now free and useable space that can repurposed for anything from storage to study space!

Having a small bedroom does not have to feel like a prison sentence. By adding multi-purpose furniture (such as a loft bed) and organizing in a thoughtful way that reduces clutter, virtually any small bedroom can be transformed into a comfortable, cozy space for many uses for years to come.
