Types of Hedge Trimmer
To date, four main types of best hedge trimmer can be distinguished: mechanical, electric, gasoline, and battery.
• Mechanical are the simplest structurally and at the same time the most inexpensive on this list. They are easy to handle; they do not require any complicated maintenance. Outwardly, they look almost like garden shears, but at the same time, they have longer arms. As a result, the shear force will be greater than if the handles were short (with the same force exerted by a person).
• Electric brush cutters are equipped with electric motors, which make them much more powerful and productive than representatives of the previous category. Accordingly, you can work with them much longer, and use it much more often. The most important thing they need in their work is an electrical outlet within direct reach.
• Gasoline brush cutters run on liquid fuel and provide the highest productivity. These powerful models are equipped with a gasoline internal combustion engine, which makes them ideal candidates for carrying out large volumes of work.
• Cordless brush cutters, in addition to the electric motor, contain a built-in rechargeable battery, and differ from classical electric (as well as from gasoline) models only in a little design and quite noticeably in power. Their main advantage is maneuverability and mobility.
What type of brush cutter to choose?
It all depends on the tasks set for this garden tool and your financial capabilities. For a small personal plot, a mechanical brush cutter is also suitable, especially if you do not plan to use it often. Need a maximally powerful machine that can be used anywhere and for as long as you like? Then opt for a gasoline model. However, remember about its shortcomings: the need for regular refueling, maintenance. Electric models are cheaper than gasoline, but they need a power source. And the battery models are just quite expensive, and their battery life until the next charge is limited by the battery capacity.
Design Features
Commercially available brush cutter models may also differ in design features. Two such groups can be distinguished here:
• a garden tool that looks as similar as possible to a trimmer. In principle, the constituent elements of such brush cutters are the same as those of trimmers. This is an engine (gasoline or electric), a cutting element and a rod. The cutting part is usually something like a circular saw, and the rod is necessary to transmit torque from the engine to the cutter;
• a garden tool, which in appearance and a set of characteristics can be called petrol scissors. Such brush cutters differ from the previous group by the presence of two cutting elements at once, which during operation move relative to each other in the same plane. They support forward and reverse movement, making them convenient to use in the process of decorating the garden. So, with such brush cutters, it is quite easy to give a certain shape to garden fences and individual bushes.
