Sometimes the kitchen needs a lot more attention in regards to cleaning. There are counter tops which tend to be very sensitive, so buying any other cleaner is highly unsuitable. Even the most simple solutions like water and/or vinegar can damage the surface. So if your counter top happens to be of granite stone, some research needs to be done about it. Granite counter tops are to be often maintained and cleaned. There are a few ways to do it and all of them are pretty simple, fast and the products needed are at arm’s length. To list off the items that should not be used. Things like vinegar, lemon juice, essential oils, window cleaner, bleach and any other harsh product will completely destroy the surface of the counter top. All that a granite counter top needs, starts with a microfiber cloth and ends with rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol. The reason alcohol will be used is so that it will be the medium for disinfecting the surface. Combining alcohol with the items that will be mentioned bellow is a very cheap and easy solution instead of buying products that are intended for such purpose, but tend to be overpriced.
Let’s begin with regular cleaning without the need of a product. Get a big bowl or a small tub, fill it up with a moderate amount of water and add mild or gentle dish or hand-washing soap. Using a dish towel, soak it in the soap-water mixture and begin cleaning the counter top with sweeping motions and polishing. The next step is when the time comes for the cleaning product to be made. You will need to get a 500 milliliter spray bottle, isopropyl alcohol and water. Fill up the bottle half way with isopropyl alcohol and the other half with water. Shake it up really nice and spray it all over the counter top. Wait for it to settle for four or five minutes, rinse it off with water, and dry it up with a terry cloth. Now it should look all shiny, sanitized and clean counter top. This has been one of the approaches to an easy cleaning up. Now moving on the the next one.
This time we are going to concentrate solely on making the cleaning product. For that you are going to need a 500 milliliter spray bottle, water, rubbing alcohol, mild dish soap and essential oil. In the beginning of the article there was something about essential oils not being okay to use on granite counter tops. It said the same thing about water. As long as they are mixed with other ingredients, they can’t do harm.
Begin by filling the spray bottle with a quarter cup of rubbing alcohol. Then add a very little amount of mild dish soap. Go with your instinct. Don’t squirt out the whole bottle though , add little drops. After that add a significant amount of essential oil, don’t go over board though, between five to ten drops would be enough. And the last thing is filling up the rest of the bottle with water. Finish it off by shaking it very vigorously so that the ingredients mix well and it is ready for use. You can go ahead and try it. There is a second way to do this recipe where the essential oil is optional. The mixture is similar to the recipe in the first method, only that this time there needs to be added up to ten drops of dish soap.
