The most meaningful trip in my life just happened. Let me tell you tell you about it.
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Torey (some call me "T") and I help urbanites interested in real estate connect the dot's between what they think they know and what they really need to know to be successful in today's markets. I have a passion for building businesses too.
Friday June 24, 2016 was not only an extremely productive day at the office (aren’t they always before a getaway?), but it marked a memorable day in my life that will stick with me for as long as I live. Why so memorable? You need to hear the context first in order to really understand the magnitude here.
3 and a half years ago was the last time I went on vacation. Just before that time was when I started my entrepreneurial endeavors by investing in mixed use real estate. After that trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, I made the promise to myself that I will not go on a vacation until I earn it for myself. What does “Earning it” mean to me? It means not taking on credit card debt or pulling strings to make the vacation work. Otherwise put: I flat out brought in the net income to intelligently splurge on a trip I worked my ass off for. If I went on a vacation by any other means than accomplishing my goal, the vacation would be too much of a burden on my heart because I would know internally that my life trajectory would be a false front to myself and the rest of the world.
By taking the approach to rewarding myself, I was able to experience the most gratifying feeling; accomplishing my first little win along my life long journey to live the life I want to live. In my opinion, this moment mark’s the first little win in my entrepreneurial business endeavors. It may seem small, but the foundation laid underneath the surface over the past years will soon pay off magnitudes as time progresses.
Many aspiring business leaders convey a sense of overnight success to their following to lure them into viewing their content. Me on the other hand, this is my true grind. It is not sexy. It is not easy. It is rewarding with the correct mindset and amount of patience. After years of relentlessly working to make ends meet. Trying one thing, seeing the result, and pivoting as necessary. Every time something doesn’t work out, trying again in another way with the understanding that the more I don’t succeed today, the more prosperous I will be tomorrow.
If there is one thing you remember from this experience, take away the fact that if you are looking to live the life you want to live, know it will not be easy. If you have the grit, patience, and motivation, you will succeed. It may take a while, but it will be a more gratifying experience than anything else you have ever experienced in your life.
