Even so, being open and honest is always key.

•  In Canada (RECO/Provincial Rules): In Canada, real estate agents are generally allowed to collect referral fees, but they have strict rules about telling clients. Any such fee must be told to the client in writing as soon as possible, and before any money or benefit is received. This notice must explain that money might be received, how it will be paid, and the amount or range of the fee. Also, you must agree in writing to share your private information. All referral fees must go through the agent's main real estate office, not directly to the agent.
