Looming Lawncare: 4 Tips to Make Caring for Your Lawn Less of a Chore

Written by Posted On Wednesday, 19 July 2017 06:50

When you look outside at your lawn and the work that you have to do, you might see it as a chore that you have to complete. With the proper tools, maintaining the lawn can be fun instead of like a job. There are some tips that you can use to make everything from mowing to getting rid of weeds faster so that you have more time to spend with the family.

Sharp Blades

Make sure the blades on the lawn mower are sharp. If they aren't then you might notice a haggard look to the lawn when you're done mowing, which means that you have to go back over the yard again to get it manicured in the proper way. Most lawn care companies that sell mowers and other tools have ways of sharpening the blades for you.

Invest in a Riding Mower

In the past you could only get a riding mower from a big name company like John Deere. Nowadays you can buy less expensive models from smaller companies like Cox Mowers. Not only will a riding mower cut down on the time spent cutting the grass, but they are sometimes fun to ride. If you have the money, then consider investing in a zero-turn mower. This design has handles that you push and pull in certain patterns when you want to turn around, allowing you to cut the grass in a much shorter time than using a typical mower.

Fill the Tank

One of the reasons why you might spend more time cutting the lawn is because the gas tank isn't full. If you run out of gas, you have to wait for the mower to cool down before refilling, which can take time away from getting the grass cut and doing other work in the yard. When the mower has cooled after you finish the yard work, fill the tank so that it's ready to go next time.

Clean the Yard

Before you mow, get all of the debris from the yard. This includes toys, balls, and limbs that might get in the way of mowing. You'll save a significant amount of time as you won't have to keep getting off the mower and picking up items that might get destroyed or tossed through a window of the home or a car.

Cut at the Right Height

If you only take the top third of the grass off, then you'll have a healthier lawn. When the lawn is healthy, then it won't need to be mowed as often. It will save you time during the week and give a beautiful look outside the home.

The lawn might seem like a jungle at times, and it might seem like a job instead of something fun that you like to do to maintain the home. When you prepare the lawn before mowing and use the right tools, then it won't be as much of a chore. With a little work beforehand, you can actually save time so that you can enjoy the fruits of your labor.
