Your New Bathroom

It is now possible to give your bathroom a new look altogether with several inspirational and well-implemented remodel ideas. These ideas can be implemened on both big and small budgets.  Consider your time, budget, and dreams and read on for some bathroom remodel inspiration!

1. Paint Refresher - If your current bathroom vanity cabinet is still providing good storage and is still strong, all you need is to give it a new fresh look with a coat of stain or paint. For a stained cabinet, first sand off that old finish and then apply a new stain color. For previously a stained cabinet, you should also first sand off the gloss, smoothen out any damage using filler, and finally apply a fresh coat of primer. You can finish off the remodeling with a topcoat of your favorite color.

2. Truthful Bathroom Lighting  - When it comes to lighting, your goal should be to bring into the bathroom different layers of illumination. A ceiling fixture is good for general lighting, however, it will cast unwelcome shadows on your face as you stand in front of the vanity mirror. Having sconces or other types of vertical fixtures mounted on each side of the vanity makes more sense as they cast less shadows. Some bathroom cabinets now come with vertical lighting strips.

3. Form and Function of your Vanity - If you have a small bathroom, the vanity is usually the only furniture item, and even if you have a larger bathroom, the vanity can set the tone of the whole bathroom. Pick a piece that is pleasing in both form and function. For form, pick something that is appealing to the eye, fits your space well, and matches your style. And in addition to the look of the vanity, consider the function. The main activity at your vanity is grooming, and therefore it is important to have a suitable amount of surface area where you can pick up and put down your items as you brush your teeth, wash your hands and face, shave, etc. Note, that while the “his-and-her” standard double sink configuration was popular in the past, now it often makes more sense to install a single bathroom sink and thus end up with more counter space.

4. Zen Console Table - If you have the room, consider adding a console table. This is often a way to add style and flair to your bathroom without having to spend a lot of money or take on another home construction project. A console table is great for placing additional hand towels, scent diffusers, or candles – giving your bathroom a nice Zen feel. A special note for wooden console tables – bathrooms collect a lot of moisture. If your console table is wooden, protect it from moisture by applying a a couple of coats of clear polyurethane.

5. The Discreet Toilet - One feature that is gaining popularity is effectively hiding the toilet, either behind a half wall or in a small “room-within-the-room”. It creates additional privacy for the bathroom goer, and gives a nicer look to the bathroom. If you have the room to hide your toilet, but not the budget, a decorative screen or a nice piece of storage furniture can be placed beside the toilet to create the needed barrier without having to meet the cost of a framed new wall.

5. Smart Storage - Storage space is a must for a functional and efficient bathroom. Life is easier when you have all the things you need within an arms reach, and this is especially true for a bathroom. Having to go to a different room to get a wash cloth, soap, shaving cream, toothpaste, etc. takes up too much of your precious time. Think about your personal needs and daily bathroom habits, and envision your dream functional bathroom. Some ideas include: getting rid of products that you no longer use, designating drawers for particular family members, sliding drawers and shelves easily pull in and out so items deep in the cabinet can be kept orderly and viewable, and adding a free standing rack for clean towels and additional toilet paper.
