10 Practical Tips and Tricks for Selling Your Home

Now that you’ve finally come to terms about selling your home, you realize there’s so much to be done. Having finished the market research to see how your home would fare, you’ve started thinking about redecorating. However, the total work needed is way beyond your budget. Fortunately, we’ve got some tips that shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg, and some are absolutely free.

Here’s what you can do:

Love at first sight

To attract potential buyers and make a good first impression you have to invest in the house overall looks. Ideally, you would replace the front door and windows, and redo the façade, but who has time (money) for all that? This is what you can do:

  • Tidy up around the house — your garden should look nice and neat. Power wash the pathway to your home and trim those hedges. Add some mulch around the plants (you’ve previously dealt with the weeds, of course), mow the lawn, and start watering regularly.

  • Make it pop — the front door is your welcoming sign, so paint it in a bright, bold, inviting color. Don’t be afraid to make it stand out! Also, the hall mustn’t be cluttered, but look spacious and have as much light as possible to immediately create a positive association.

  • Nice and smooth — the garage door adds to the curb appeal as well. If it needs repainting, do it immediately. However, what is a huge turn off for every buyer is any trouble with the door opening. Nobody wants to see extra expenses the moment they go house shopping. Call a reputable garage door repair service on time and save yourself from embarrassing moments.

Set the scene

With such lovely exterior, it is expected the interior is going to match, too, and here is how to do it:

  • Declutter — yes, you have to get rid of all the things you don’t really need from every room in your home (attic included) so people can move freely around your home.

  • Depersonalize — if you’re preparing the house for sale, put away your family photos. That way, buyers will picture themselves more easily instead of feeling as a visitor or an intruder.

  • Add some scents — this is where the retailers get us, so follow their lead. Use a scented candle or an air refreshener to ooze pleasant smell during the shopping experience.

  •  Add a mirror or two — the oldest trick for adding space does wonders and you probably don’t have enough of them already.

  • Floating furniture — no matter how big or small the living room, sofas and armchairs shouldn’t be placed right against the wall if you want the spacious effect.

  • Neutral hues — you’ll probably want to paint the walls in neutral shades. Once again, it’s an empty canvas for the buyer.

As for the kitchen and bathroom, the least you can do is make sure there are no dripping taps, and possibly replace the old with new modern or vintage ones. A tiny detail, but it goes a long way. Also, new fluffy towels go without saying.

Final words

All of these are extremely budget-friendly, so it’s all up to you now. Put in a bit of work, and you’ll be getting great offers in no time!
