How to Increase Your Income with DIY Home Projects

Written by Posted On Saturday, 06 February 2016 13:17

Are you thinking of an easy way to increase your income without taking another side job or working extra hours? The easy way to do that is by doing your home projects yourself.

You’re probably wondering how DIY home projects can help increase your income. After all, it’s not as if you get paid when you do some house chores. But come to think of it, you would have paid for those services if you had hired somebody to do them for you. So why not do them and pay yourself.

If you do this all year round, you’d be shocked how much savings you’d have made. Highlighted here are some ‘not-so-complex’ projects you can handle even if you work a 9 to 5 job.

1. Home remodeling

Home remodeling can be a tedious job for many people. However, it’s not what you should be rushing. You could have a monthly schedule of four weekends, for example, to do whatever you need to fix.

Instead of repainting your wall, try using wallpapers. Peel off the old paint and ensure that you have a smooth surface before fixing the wallpapers on the wall.

Again, if you’re used to hiring a neighborhood gardener to help with trimming your grass, you should consider getting a lawn mower so that you can do the gardening yourself. This would be a good investment that’ll guarantee you some savings.

2. Maintenance and repair work

Granted that there are a number of things about your house you can't do yourself - take the work of Zoning Attorneys as an example - there are many home maintenance works you can handle yourself. Often times, we spend a lot of money trying to fix things in the house. These things range from broken furniture, to damaged electrical installations, and leaking roof. Those whom we hire to fix them must be very happy with us for giving them free money.

Many times we, hire people to do jobs which we could have easily done by ourselves. You know that awful moment when you called a technician to help you fix your electricity, and you realized that there was nothing wrong, and that it was the circuit breaker that tripped.

So the next time you need to fix something in the house, try fixing it yourself first. Get a small tool box containing useful tools such as hammer, chisel, plier, brush etc. and if you don’t know how to go about it, ask Google for some clue. However, you shouldn’t hesitate to bring in experts to carry out complex or technical projects which you can’t handle by yourself.

3. Cloth Mending

If you’re one of those who pile up cloths in the house just because they have little dents on them, and when the pile has grown into a large dump you pack them all at once and give the neighborhood tailor to mend them, now is the time for you to try mending your cloths yourself.

If you’re lucky to have a sewing machine, you can start stitching your clothes yourself. But if you who don’t, you should get one of those sewing machines designed for beginners.

Apart from this, you could learn easy steps to sewing simple cloth styles and start sewing your own simple-styled cloths. Doing this will not only help you save cost, it’ll serve as a hobby and a nice exercise for the legs too.

There are many other stuff you could learn doing yourself. Whether it's how to create apps, how to setup a business, how to write a book, how to speak a particular new language or create a blog, there are free guides, ebooks, podcasts and videos online to help you learn to do it yourself.

Lastly, applying these tips will help you achieve many things. You’ll not only save money and increase your income, you’ll also learn new things doing those projects yourself. Thus, you’ll live a more active life.
