What Homeowners Can Do to Maintain Their Garage Door

The garage door is one of the most used parts of your home and it is the largest moving part. As a homeowner, you have to perform regular preventive maintenance and care for your garage to keep it functioning smoothly for years to come.

The first thing you can do is be observant. Observe your garage door every time you use it. Do the pulleys, springs and cable look symmetrical? Is it noisier than before? Is it still running smoothly or operating awkwardly?

With every usage, the vibration and movement of the door can make the hardware loosen. Tighten the bolts and roller brackets once in a while with a socket wrench. The rollers and whether seal should be inspected two times a year and replaced every seven years. If you notice that the rollers are cracked or chipped, they should be replaced immediately. Lubricating the moving parts is also important. It will add years of smooth operation for your garage door.
