10 Great Organization Tips for Decluttering Your Home

While walking through your home, you might notice that there are clothes in places where they don't belong or toys that seem to appear out of nowhere. Instead of moving everything out of the way so that it can be in the middle of the floor later, consider a few organizational tips for decluttering and organizing the home.

Dresser Drawers

Don't throw away old dressers that you no longer need. Remove the front of the drawers of the dressers to use them as knobs on walls. You can paint the drawers in colors that will match the other decorations in the home. Keys and other small items can be hung on the knobs as a way to add more storage space for the things that seem to get lost.

Suitcases

If you are looking for more coffee tables or end tables, then use old suitcases. You can often add another fabric to a suitcase so that it will match the rest of the room. Add legs to the bottom of the suitcase so that it will stand on the floor. You can get suitcases in various sizes so that you have a coffee table and end tables. The best thing about suitcases is that you can open the lids and use them for storage. They are ideal for keeping all of your magazines and small items in one place.

Electronics

If there are electronics in the home that you don't need, like old outdated computers and appliances, consider recycling these instead of throwing them away. This is a far more eco-conscious method for disposing of old electronics. You can also sell your broken iPhone and other devices for some extra cash--one more reason to get rid of that clutter!

Stacking Glasses

One way to declutter the kitchen is to put herbs and spices in glass stacking containers. Place the containers on a shelf so that they are presentable. This can get small items off the top of a stove or off a counter while creating a space that is visually appealing.

Hall Space

There is likely a large amount of space in the hallways through the home that isn't being used. Add shelves to the walls so that you can store dishes and other items that are placed around the house. This is a decorative idea for a set of dishes that you want others to see while they are in the home.

Greeting Cards

If you're tired of seeing cards everywhere after holidays, birthdays or special occasions, then place them in their own filing box. A box of almost any size will be sufficient for holding the cards. Add labels to divide the cards into occasions or years.

Bookshelves

The bookshelf isn't just for storing books in the home. You can use one side or shelf to store firewood while using the other shelves for special mementos that you don't have room for on tables or walls. This is a way to keep everything in one place and secure.

Closets

If you are like many people, then you probably have clothing that is too small, too big or that you just don't want to wear. Clean out your closets, and donate the clothes to an organization to help others in need.

Garage Sale

One way to get rid of the items that you don't need or use and to make a little extra money is to have a garage sale. Organize tables and boxes to make it easy for customers to find the things they want, and price items to sell.

Dividers

Add a little more space in drawers with dividers. The dividers can separate socks, underwear and other items that seem to get combined simply by closing the drawer.

Organizing the home can be an easy job if you know what to use. The items that you might think aren't worth saving could be used for storage or to place on the wall for hanging items that might get lost.
