Written by Posted On Sunday, 25 March 2018 21:44

A home is a safe place where a person feels secure and relaxed. It is not just a building that you live in but a home to everything you own and a lot of memories as well. It is essential that you take action to make sure that your house is safe because tragedy does not come with an invitation. You should not wait for a burglary to secure your house against it. Experiencing a home invasion can be a life-shattering experience because someone intrudes your safe haven.

Here are some easy and simple ways I keep my house safe from potential break-ins.

Securing the Front Door:

The front door is the most favorite entry point for burglars so make sure that the front door is properly secured. The front door should always be solid so that it does not make it easy for the intruder to enter. The knob locks and other locks are on the doorknob should be reinforced. To add extra security you should also install a bolt lock. The door hinges should be in excellent condition so they are properly secured. The casing of the lock used should be of hardened steel so that it is more resistant to impact.

Take Advantage of Technology:

The technology has a lot of things to offer when it comes to house security so why not take advantage of what it has to offer. There is a lot of surveillance equipment like spy cameras, motions sensors, etc. that will inform you in case of an intrusion and you will get the break-in on camera. You should also get a sophisticated security alarm so that the burglars are discouraged to proceed with a break-in as the alarm goes off. They are also discouraged by the sight of cameras so make sure that you install one where people can see it.

Lock the Windows:

People remember to lock their doors but they often leave the windows open providing an excellent opportunity to the intruders to enter the house. Check all the windows to ensure they are locked before you leave the house. If you have windows or doors with sliding doors then install stops so that they do not open. You can also secure the sliding doors by putting a wooden or metal rod across the panel.

Keep the Yard Neat and Rimmed:

You should not let the yard to grow wild because it will provide the perfect place for burglars to hide and it also shows that the owners are not home. It is an affordable and easy way of keeping the house safe. If you have a yard full of clutter you are also making it easy for the burglar to find a way to the house. Overgrown trees are just like a ladder so it is important to trim the trees and the yard.

Use Light Timers:

When the lights of the house are on people automatically assume that owners are at home. If you are going away for the weekend and want to give an impression that the house is not empty then install light timers. They will make sure that the lights switch on as it gets dark. They will keep the house safe and energy consumption under control.
