How To Create Unconventional Beauty In Your Home

Creating a unique look to your home doesn’t need to cost a fortune. Whether you are looking to flip a home, upgrade your own to sell, or even to stay, you can create unconventional beauty in just about any space with the right items. Many furniture stores now may custom items in their warehouses, but you can create these pieces on your own for even more customization.

Utilize Unconventional Wood Pieces

Wood pieces are a great way to make your home look put together. Depending on the types of pieces you use, you can also create various looks. For example, you can create a rustic look in your kitchen with a butcherblock countertop and farmhouse wash bin.

You can also add some rustic charm by using barn doors in your home. You can use barn doors as doors in your own home. Or, you can repurpose these doors to create unique tables, countertops or coffee tables. Simply place a piece of cut glass over the door to create a one-of-a-kind coffee table.

Reuse Unexpected Items

Instead of throwing away old times, such as curtains and flower pots, use these items to create unexpected pieces of furniture. For example, you can reupholster your furniture with curtains or drapes that no longer work for a particular room.

You could scour tag sales and estate sales for unique pieces that you could repurpose. For example, an old wagon wheel would make a great coffee table. You could use old wooden wine bottle crates to make unique end tables. These unexpected items make very rustic looking pieces that go well in any farmhouse or family room.

Bring the Outdoors Inside

If you have ever craved more of the outdoors, you can simply incorporate the outdoors in your home. There are plenty of ways to bring more greenery and life into your home—and you don’t even need a conservatory.

Moss walls are becoming extremely popular. You simply attached live moss to your walls to create a lush look in any room. You could incorporate just about any type of plan in your home, too. All you need are bright lights to encourage plant growth in darker rooms.

Create a Work of Art on Your Walls

Creating a work of art on your walls isn’t as tricky as it sounds. You could create your own wallpaper, backsplashes and tilework with just a little creativity and a bit of imagination. You could work with just about any material to create this unique look.

Add some tiling to your kitchen walls to create a backsplash that is all your own. Or, break dishes from a flea market to create your own tiles and artwork.

When it comes to wallpaper, you don’t need to stick to the stuff you find at home décor stores. Instead, get creative by using lush fabrics on your walls. You’ll create plenty of texture and add a ton of color to a room.

Create Theme Rooms

Some people love every room to look the same. Others appreciate theme rooms in their homes. Theme rooms capture the look and feel of a specific theme or a certain timeframe. You could create an island oasis in your bathroom or a Roman cathedral in your living room.

If you want to transport yourself back to another time period, you could create a 1920s-style room or even a steampunk room. The possibilities are literally endless.

Add a Chalkboard

Add a design element that’s as fun as it is practical. Chalkboards are easy to paint on your walls and add a dramatic element to any room. All you need to do is buy a can of chalkboard paint and begin painting any wall in your home. You could paint an entire wall with chalkboard paint or simply paint a section of a wall. If you’re feeling timid, you could even just paint an empty picture frame to hang on your wall instead of painting the entire wall.
