7 Safety Tips For Your Home That Will Reassure You At Night

Written by Posted On Monday, 19 August 2019 12:40

Family safety is the main priority of every homeowner. In fact, most parents and homeowners often spend much of their time thinking of ways to make their family safer even when there are no imminent threats to them. The following are a few tips you can use to ensure safety for yourself and all the members of your family.

Secure Your Doors

This one may seem like a no brainer. However, one in three burglars enters their victim's home through the front door. Your door frames and hinges should be strong enough to withstand the force a human can generate. If there is a mail slot in your front door, make sure it is not possible to reach through the slot and open the door. Door strengthening upgrades include deadbolt locks, strike plates, and smart locks. You might also want to consider a video doorbell for added security.

Lock All Windows

Windows are the second most common entry point for burglars. There are times you will find the latch put in place on windows by a manufacturer is not sturdy enough to stop an invader. In fact, some of these latches are plain flimsy. You can add to the window security of your home through the use of additional locks and levers operated by key. Security film can be used to reinforce the glass of your windows and some homeowners have found peace of mind by planting prickly bushes beneath windows on the first level of their home.

Smoke Detector

A smoke alarm will not stop a fire from happening but it can save the lives of you and your family. A smart smoke detector allows you to download an application that will inform you of a fire at your home even when you are not present. You can also purchase a smoke detector that will tell you if carbon monoxide is present in your home, which room in your home is experiencing the problem, and how bad the problem is.

Light It Up

The criminal element does not like having the spotlight shone on them. You can keep burglars at bay lighting up your front and back yards. You should also place ample lighting along walkways and around a garage or any other structure that may be on your property. The lighting will not only run away criminals. A well-lit property will also prevent falls and accidents for you and your family when it is dark outside.

Eliminate Places to Hide

Shrubs and trees can make for great landscaping around your home. However, they can also provide good hiding places for thieves. You should keep the greenery close to your home well-trimmed so they can not be used for cover. Things like ladders and stools should not be left outside. Gates and other structures should be locked and you should not draw attention to your home by leaving expensive items in the yard.

Get a Safe

A safe will help keep your valuables safe in the event a criminal is able to get past the other security measures you take. You should put things like jewelry, important documents, and other hard to replace items in your safe. You should purchase a safe that is waterproof, fire-resistant, and heavy enough that it is impossible for a burglar to carry away. If possible, find a safe that has two or more locks.

Use Security Cameras

Security cameras will help you deter criminals from entering your home and ensure you get justice in the event they do. You should choose a security camera that works with a mobile app so that you can see what is happening in and around your home when you are away.

There is nothing more important than the safety of you and your family. The quality of your life and your peace of mind will greatly improve when you know your family is facing no imminent threats. The seven tips above will go along way to helping you gain the peace of mind you desire.
