Marjorie Tinnell, with Independence Title, in Austin TX presented a wonderful course on “The Authentic Agent.”  Dorie knows when Marjorie offers a course it will be time well spent. Her insights from technology to practicing the “best business practices” are always enlightening. Marjorie walks the talk and is always learning so she can exceed our expectations!

So what is Social Capital? To Dorie, Social Capital is developing “authentic relationships” by being real and adding value. It’s actually better than money in the bank. Why? Because connecting with others and helping others succeed establishes value which separates you from your competition and helps you achieve “Mind Share.” Why is this so important? Because you end up providing a blanket of services your customer comes to expect and feels there is no reason to reach out elsewhere!  They always think of you.

Establishing customer confidence is the foundation for any meaningful and lasting relationship.  Creating unquestionable value and surpassing customer’s expectations result in a trusting relationship. It’s very likely you will have a customer for life.  Social Capital is the international currency of networking!

Marjory outlined 4 steps to follow in building Social Capital in her class:

 1.     Give your clients a personal call. Call to genuinely talk with them about things important and of interest to them. Do not ask for a referral at this time.

2.     Call all the people who have referred business to you. Ask them how things are going and learn more about what they are doing so you can refer people to them.

3.     List 50 people to stay in touch with. Include anyone who has done business with you the last year and any new contacts you are currently working with (following the same procedure as steps 1 & 2 and follow up with a card on the next holiday.)

4.     Follow up. Two weeks after you sent cards to your contacts, call them to see what is going on. If the contact is a former client or just someone you’ve talked with before, now you might want to ask for a referral. If it’s a prospect maybe ask to set up an appointment to have coffee and find out if their plans might include using your services.

In my previous life as an educator, I realized the learning process never stops.  Teaching involves just as much listening as it does speaking.  Today I enjoy learning about buyer's needs and seller's goals to guide them through a successful transition in life.  It requires asking the right questions and then actually listening!

Taking time to listen and learn about why you are embarking on buying or selling real estate is what allows me to develop client trust and loyalty.  It allows me to share decades worth of market knowledge and real estate experience as an endless resource.  Those years of development have lead to proven marketing strategies, implementation of a team of industry partners and integrated detailed workflows.

I'm a business manager who will guide you through the process, and help make the important decisions whether you are buying or selling.  I offer professional guidance for residential home buyers and sellers.
