Over the last ten years, the average American employee performs work quite differently from the decades before. The invention of the Internet and Laptop computers means that you are most likely to be typing away for your work – not the manual labor that was dominant in the previous in the century.
This got me thinking about the 9-5 job that that was designed to meet the needs of the industrial revolution. Given that the concept of the 40-hour work week was introduced in the 1800’s, we have come a long way since then. Technology has made us all far more productive without the need to physically be in an office. We can work from home and submit work via email. About 40% of American workers do work from home – at least part of the time.

Setting up your own business has never been easier. Technology has made everything from book keeping to marketing and customer acquisition much easier. You can start a website for your business and millions of people can find you online every month.
You can start a business online that has almost no overhead but makes thousands or even millions of dollars per month. You can sell products online that can help people learn a new skill or add some other value to their lives. You can become a freelancer where you bid on online projects on sites like Upwork.com. There really is no limit to the unconventional ways to make money online. The limit is only set by your imagination.
The hardest part is leaving your 9-5 job. We have been conditioned to think that a conventional job is the only way to make an income. Sometimes we become comfortably uncomfortable! I was in this position a few years ago but I started to build a side hustle income by blogging about stock trading. The blog started to make me a lot of money and finally I was able to quit my full-time job and focus on my blog. Yes, there were some tough times in the early days and I had to supplement my income with paid surveys and testing websites for money.
The unconventional work life is amazing though – no asking your boss for vacation! The feeling of freedom you get is intoxicating and trust me – you will never want to go back to a conventional 9-5 job. It is not easy to setup a money-making business online but it is totally worth it.
