Signs You Need A Kitchen Upgrade

The kitchen is the favorite part of the house for most people, and it’s easy to understand why. We cook our food there, and in most cases, it’s also where we eat, especially when it has a nice countertop. Few people will argue that the kitchen is the heart of any home, regardless of its size or design.

The kitchen is also the most heavily-used part of the house, so you can expect it to sustain more wear and tear—and need an upgrade—earlier than any other area of your home.

So how can you tell that your kitchen needs an upgrade, or better yet, a kitchen remodel? Here are some of the signs.

It’s getting cramped

This one has nothing to do with wear and tear, but with the family growing, and its members growing up.

Let’s say you only had one kid when you bought or built your house. Then you had another one, then another, and before you know it, the kitchen has to accommodate more warm bodies than it was designed for in the first place. Add to that the fact that your kids will grow bigger, and you’ll eventually end up with a cramped kitchen where you and your loved ones literally bump into each all the time.

Other signs that your kitchen is getting smaller include having a hard time finding counter space when cooking and storing kitchen items in another part of your home because your cabinets are full.

If this is your kitchen situation, then it’s already up for a little remodeling to make it more spacious.

Cleaning it becomes tougher

It’s hard to keep a kitchen clean when there are already deep grout lines in its tile countertops. Any attempt to clean cracked or peeling linoleum floor tiles will also seem to be in vain. If it pains you to see your kitchen look less than sparkling despite all your efforts, you should at least do some re-grouting or replace the unsightly parts.

It seems dark and gloomy

The kitchen should be a well-lit part of the house. After all, we do need to see clearly what we’re cooking and eating. But if we have to squint to see if we’re even working on the right ingredients while cooking, then your kitchen will need a lighting upgrade at the very least.

You can brighten things up by adding under-cabinet and overhead lighting fixtures. If you have the budget for it, then you can do some remodeling to add more windows for more natural light.

People don’t like spending time there anymore

It’s supposed to be the heart of your home, but if you and your family hardly spend any time there anymore, then there must be something wrong with it. It could look like it’s falling apart, or it doesn’t look that enticing anymore. Whatever the reason, you have to make upgrades if you still want to keep that heart of your home beating.

You’re thinking about selling

Good for you if you plan to live in the same house for the rest of your life. However, if you don’t see yourself doing that, then you will probably put your house on the market sometime in the future. And when you finally reach that point, you would want your home to fetch the best possible price. An upgraded kitchen can help you with that.

Of course, the remodeling of your kitchen to help up your home’s value will depend on your budget. You can go for a minor facelift like newer cabinets or a new countertop, or you can go for a full-on kitchen remodel. However, to get the best possible value out of your kitchen remodel, consult with a real estate agent or a kitchen designer first.

These are just some of the signs you need to upgrade your kitchen. Try taking a closer look at your kitchen, and you just might find more reasons to initiate a kitchen remodel.
