Knowing Nashville: Movement Property Group Founder Matt Kirkegaard Showcases Nashville and Urges Others to Live Like A Local

Nashville musician and Movement Property Group Founder Matt Kirkegaard is adding another credential to his resume: TV host.

In a bid to put Nashville on the map and further attract music lovers, adventure seekers, and home buyers to his beloved city, Kirkegaard has released the latest episode of his ongoing local TV series "Selling Nashville."

Unlike the previous episodes, which feature the founder's ultra-luxurious local properties, this video has us following Kirkegaard to one of his favorite Nashville night spots as he explains why he loves it.

He decided to change direction in the popular series because he realized recently that Nashville is only as prosperous and alluring as its small businesses. After all, people don't move to Nashville only for the luxurious homes that Kirkegaard — voted a top 100 real estate agent in Tennessee — sells.

Instead, they move to Nashville for the legendary music scene, the incredible vibe of the city, and the hope of running into Keith Urban or Taylor Swift at Whole Foods.

“As realtors, I think it's important to intentionally support the community you are serving by not only getting the right people into homes but by supporting the businesses, bars, cafes, and restaurants that add to the city's culture!” said Kirkegaard.

The New ‘Selling Nashville'

The exciting new segment opens with the founder explaining to the audience how Nashville, home ownership, and the American dream are related. As a host, Kirkegaard is equally in-the-know and inviting, the perfect person to virtually show you around his favorite city, where he relocated as a young adult to pursue a career in music.

After a brief intro, he takes us inside Love & Exile; a fantastic hidden gem tucked away in East Nashville and one of his favorite spots for a casual night out.

We follow him inside for a behind-the-scenes tour, meeting bar manager Mackenzie Tierney-Smith, who explains the unusual name of the winery and bar. "The owner was Canadian and, as his visa was expiring, he had to start a business to avoid having to go back north. So, the 'love' comes from his love of wine, and the 'exile' is from the threat of exile," the well-known local barman explained.

At this, Kirkegaard bursts out laughing, explaining that even he didn't know where the bar's name came from.

As the two friends chat during the segment, they explain that, while the popular winery doesn't have its own vineyards, the owner imports grapes from all over the world — his favorite are from Chile – and makes the wine in Nashville.

While Kirkegaard calls the winery an excellent bar for parties, Tierney-Smith calls it a safe space for all members of the community to come and have a great time.

But, to further the party bar narrative, we learn that on the day of Kirkegaard's visit, Tierney-Smith was getting ready for a production of "Drunk Hamlet" that was being staged at the winery by a local production company called Inebriated Shakespeare. Both mentioned that this and their ongoing comedy nights are excellent date night events in Nashville.

And if the dates go well, Love & Exile also hosts some of the city's most fun and unique engagement parties and wedding receptions.

More About Movement Property Group

Kirkegaard has lived in Nashville for over 15 years, having moved to the city from his hometown in Wyoming to be closer to the city's unique music scene. At 21, he was broke and living in his car but managed to turn his situation around and become one of the state's top luxury property experts.

But he never forgot those feelings of scarcity and fear. That's why he makes sure to give back to his community in all that he does. For example, his company funds the LiftUp Initiative, which helps locals pay their rent or mortgage when they're going through financial hardships beyond their control. The program is funded by 10% of the founder's commission.

"You can level up your company and give back simultaneously. I know it for a fact because I've done it," Kirkegaard said.

From engaging videos to community service and transparent and honest luxury home sales, Kirkegaard's love for Tennessee's music city is apparent. Be sure to keep an eye out for him when you visit Love & Exile in Nashville.
