What Are the Different Types of Timeshares That Exist Today?

Posted On Tuesday, 21 February 2023 19:34

If you thought that only older folks were interested in purchasing timeshares, you would be wrong. The demographics are quite different nowadays.

57% of timeshare owners are Gen Z and Millennials. They are buying up new and resale timeshares by the hundreds.

This makes it seem like the timeshare industry is becoming popular again. Are you interested in purchasing a timeshare yourself?

Well, there are different types of timeshares to keep in mind when shopping around. Keep reading to learn more.

1. Fixed Week

As the name says, with this kind of timeshare you would own a fixed week every year at a specific "home" resort. This means that you don't ever have to worry about your vacation week being sold out and having to book something else because the resort is having a busier-than-normal week.

This does mean that you will have to book the same week for vacation every year. There's no flexibility regarding this, which appeals to some folks and doesn't to others.

2. Floating Week

Each week in the year is numbered 1-52 and you are allowed to secure any available week in your "season" again at a specific "home" resort. You would need to contact the resort every year to make this vacation rental booking, so it does require a bit of extra work on your part.

You could even have a floating week that can be redeemed at many other resorts, not just your "home" resort, depending on how your contract is set up.

3. Rotational

From year to year, your allocated week at the resort will rotate either backward or forwards, giving you a chance to try out different times at the resort. This allows you to dabble in different seasons at the resort, and see which one you like best.

If you have tried all the seasons and are still not satisfied with your timeshare, go to sellingtimeshares.net for help in getting rid of your timeshare ownership.

4. Fractionals

This is a kind of fixed week timeshare, but you aren't just purchasing one week in a resort, but rather bigger chunks of it. It could be 4 weeks or 12 weeks per year.

If you are planning on retiring and wish to spend 4-12 weeks of the year in a different warmer climate, then this kind of timeshare could work very well for you. These kinds of timeshares aren't necessarily at resorts either but could be in condos or townhomes instead.
