West Massachusetts Towns Report Mixed Markets

From West Roxbury to West Brookfield to West Bridgewater, West Massachusetts towns report mixed markets, but they're united in offering attractive lifestyles, say local Realtors.

West Roxbury

"West Roxbury is the southern-most of Boston neighborhoods," says Realtor Louis Maloof , "and it's the most suburban and family-oriented of Boston neighborhoods. It is perfect for families looking for single-family homes. Many residents are active in religious, community or civic associations in town. A vibrant shopping district on Centre Street boasts mainly sole proprietors who have businesses and homes in the area. With quiet streets and a short distance from downtown, West Roxbury offers the best of suburbia in the city."

West Brookfield

Says Realtor Gladys I. Mountain , "West Brookfield is small-town New England at it's best. If you like country fairs and concerts on the common, you'll love it here!

About the market, Mountain suggests, "West Brookfield is a mostly residential community located twenty miles west of Worcester. The town has several light manufacturing companies who employ people from the area. The town has several recreational facilities, including Lake Wickaboag, that handles boating and swimming, Little League baseball on the Town Common and the Rock House nature walk. West Brookfield is located on Route 9 and is about twenty minutes from Olde Sturbridge Village. The school system is regionalized, from K-12 with the Town of Warren, to form the Quaboag Regional School District."

West Bridgewater

"Homes are beginning to stay on the market longer as the economy and interest rates continue to slowly build," says Realtor Debra J. Cahill . "The bidding wars for homes two years ago where buyers offered thousands more than the asking price appear to have ended. The housing market is different from the stock market. In the housing market, sellers will hold out for a while before cutting price; in the stock market, prices are lowered right away. The market is changing and notes watching. With more homes coming on the market, buyers will have options. Sellers are pricing their homes more competitively."
