The master bedroom is one of the most critical rooms during the process of home staging. It is the room where the homeowner will relax and de-stress at the end of a busy day. Ideally, you want to make the room look like it belongs in a luxury vacation home - your prospective buyers need to enter the master bedroom and desire to have the space as their own.

Even if you feel your bedroom is comfortable and homely, and it is personalized to your liking, this look will not help you when it comes to selling your home. Prospective buyers will be attracted to a spacious neat and elegant space, So do you make an effort to stage the master bedroom properly before putting your property on the market.

Painting the Master Bedroom

When choosing colors for the master bedroom, go for neutral colors that create a feeling of calm. Look at pictures online or in travel magazines of rooms in a Caribbean resort. They generally are painted in a soft white color which makes the room appear spacious room up. Other colors to consider are pale greys and blues, or pastel greens.

The Bed

Buy bed linen that matches the paint color you have chosen as this makes the space appear bigger and roomy. Alternatively, go for white linen as this gives a calming spa-like atmosphere. To make the bed look interesting, use a colorful throw pillow or several cushions placed on the bed. Remembered to iron the linen as a creased bed does not give the desired relaxed look.

A luxury headboard can give a whole new lock to even the dullest of rooms. If you are on a budget and don't want to spend money, you can find some great fabric beds and headboards or even make your own. Pinterest offers excellent ideas for DIY headboards.

Declutter

Make sure the master bedroom is entirely free of clutter. The room should be spotlessly clean without any personal items such as photographs, hairbrushes or clothes left lying around. The bedside tables should be clear except for a lamp, so personal items such as books and spectacles should be placed inside closed drawers.

Get rid of any excess furniture as this will make the room appear smaller. Create space and walking room - optimally the only furniture in the room should be the bed and the bedside tables. If the room is large enough, you could leave a dresser, but I advise either selling excess furniture or putting it into storage during the home selling process.

The Closet

The closet of the master bedroom will be of interest to buyers, particularly females who are more likely to be clothes enthusiasts. Whether your wardrobe is a walk-in or a wall closet, make sure it is not more than a third full. Pack out of season clothes (after all, you will need to pack them anyway) and use baskets to prevent a confused cluttered look. Get rid of mismatched hangers and put shoes in boxes. Try to color coordinate the remaining clothes to make the closet look well ordered and attractive.

Lighting

There should be a lamp on each bedside table. Even if the lamps don't match, they should be in a similar style. Go for Soft LED lights or incandescent bulbs for a warm, soft atmosphere.

Window coverings

Get rid of any dark curtains and replace them with white blinds or sheer curtains. It is usual to leave the curtains behind when you sell a home, so it's essential to get rid of old scruffy curtains before you put your home on the market. Make sure the curtains are well ironed and be sure to dust the blinds regularly and open them before viewers arrive.

Staging bedrooms can be a lot of fun, and you'll also be surprised at how much more relaxing your room is once you get rid of the clutter and unnecessary furniture items. You may feel find the space so relaxing you change your mind about selling!
