Pet-Friendly 55+ vs Pet-Friendly All Age Community

Are you looking for a pet-friendly 55+ community or a pet-friendly all-age community?   Do you know the differece?  There are definitely differnces between the two types of communities you may or may not be aware of.  When I ask people this question, they will often say it doesn't matter.  Maybe it does or maybe it doesn't.   But you need to know the difference in order to make an informed decision. Does it matter if you're in Boca Raton, Delray Beach or Boynton Beach? Maybe yes, maybe no.

Pet-Friendly 55+ Communities

Pet-Friendly 55+ communities today are geared towards baby boomers.  There are newer communities and older communities, gated and non-gated communities in all price ranges.   Some senior communities are pet friendly while others are not.  Some 55+ communities are much more active than others.  Do you want action, something going on all the time?  Or maybe a bit more low key is your style.  I can guide you but, ultimately, you have to find your comfort zone.

Pet-Friendly 55+ communities tend to be more social.  They often have planned activities geared towards active adults.  Cards, shows, billiards, fitness centers, arts and crafts, hanging out at the pool, water aerobics, yoga, pilates, clubs and on and on it goes.  The more active communities have a daily schedule of activities while smaller communities have planned activities but to a lesser degree.

Please note:  I am not talking about now specifically but in general.  Due to the pandemic, many of the clubhouses are closed in varying degrees at this time.  Many pools are only open certain hours.

Some of the communities allow pets while others do not.  Some allow only small pets or one pet.  Some allow larger pets or more than one.  This will likely make a difference to you as a pet owner, especially if you have more than one pet.  Our pets are family and we're not leaving them behind.  So the key is to find a 55+ pet friendly community that will accept both you and your beloved furry friends.

All-Age Communities

All-Age Communities are just that - all ages.   Homes may be larger and you will see basketball hoops in driveways and kids playing in the street.  They're great pet-friendly communities but they're not 55+ communities.  They often have clubhouses, but no planned activities to speak of.  Sure they may have a holiday party or a tennis league, but it's not an all-the-time thing.  Some communities have more planned activities than others these days.

Prices in all-age communities tend to be higher.  I don't know why but that's the way it is.

55+ Community vs All-Age Community

55+ community vs all-age community - so now you know the difference.  Which one is right for you?   That's a decision you're going to have to make.  I can educate you but I can't make the decision for you.  Every buyer has their own comfort zone.  When they walk in, some times they know it or perhaps they know it before they even call.  Some people just do while others don't.  And that's okay.  I'll help you figure it out.

Pet-Friendly 55+ and Pet-Friendly All-Age Communities

Once you know where you'd like to go, you need to find out if the community will take your beloved pets.  I cannot stress how important this is.  Just yesterday I had a call from someone who was under contract only to find out their second pet would not be accepted in a particular community and had to cancel the contract.  What a waste of time and energy!

Final Thoughts

Both pet-friendly pet-friendly 55+ communities and pet-friendly all-age communities are great.  It just depends what you're looking for.  And that is something you need to figure out because, as you can see, there are definitee differences.  That is why you should hire a pet-friendly REALTOR® and buyer's agent who can help you navigate your way.  They're also FREE to you, the buyer.
