Unique and Interesting Shopping

Some cities seem to have nothing to offer but the same chains of shops, and this can result in shopping for clothes or home furnishings becoming uninspiring and everybody looking pretty much the same. In Birmingham, this really isn't the case. There are all kinds of unique and interesting boutique stores all over the city where you can indulge whatever your taste in clothes and interior design, from vintage fashion and antiques to modern European designer chic. Birmingham is a stylish city where even window shopping can be a fun and inspiring thing to do, and watching the people go by in some of the most fashionable neighborhoods can be an activity in itself!

An Exciting Sports Scene

Thanks to its big college population and the local love of football, Birmingham is a fantastic city to be in if you are a lover of sports. The rivalry between the local college football teams is one of the fiercest in the nation, so be sure to think very carefully before deciding whether to root for the Alabama Crimson Tide or the Auburn Tigers! Whether you like going to games or relaxing and watching them in one of the city's many excellent sports bars, the sport loving atmosphere in the city coupled with the famous friendliness of the locals will ensure you are in for a good time! As with most cities with a strong student population and a healthy fondness for supporting sports teams, Birmingham really comes alive at night after a big game, and you'll be in for some evenings to remember (or not!).

Excellent Food

While you can find interesting cuisine from all over the world in Birmingham, it is in the traditional Southern foods you'll really find the flavors of the city. One popular traditional choice is the concept of 'meat and three' – a meat or fish dish served with three vegetable sides. Lots of foods can be included as the meat, like meatloaf and catfish, and for the vegetables you could have anything from turnip greens to sweet potatoes, making for wholesome, satisfying, real food. Barbecue is another ubiquitous style of cooking, and the smell of meat sizzling on the grill on a sunny Birmingham day is sure to stir your appetite!

With plenty to do and a really lively, friendly atmosphere, Birmingham is a wonderful city to be a part of and an interesting choice if you want to relocate!
