The limit settings control the points at which your garage door will stop when going up or down. If the settings are not properly adjusted, the door may not open or close completely, or reverse when fully closed. When making adjustments, repeated operation of your door’s opener may cause the motor to overheat and shut off. To prevent this, wait 15 minutes to run the opener again.
Adjusting travel limits
• If door does not open fully, but opens at least 5 feet, increase up travel by turning the UP limit screw clockwise.
• If door does not close completely, increase down travel by turning the DOWN limit screw counterclockwise.
• If door reverses when completely closed, decrease down travel by turning the DOWN limit screw clockwise.
One turn is equivalent to 2 inches travel
Adjusting force limits
• If door does not open at least 5 feet, turn the control clockwise to increase UP force. Make slight adjustments until it opens fully.
• If door reverses during close cycle, increase DOWN force by turning the control clockwise. Make slight adjustments until your door closes completely without reversing.
After each adjustment, run your opener through a complete travel cycle to see if the travel and force limits are already adjusted properly. If you find it difficult to set your equipment’s limits, seek help from a garage door service professional.
