Alternative Uses for a Concrete Garage

Written by Posted On Friday, 24 June 2016 22:13

Historically concrete garages were built to storemotor vehicles, however, during recent years the purpose of the concrete garage has altered and home owners have tapped into the full potential of the concrete garage. These structures can in fact serve a number of alternative and useful purposes.

Extra Storage Space

With house prices as expensive as they are, home owners with families are staying in small homes for longer, making the most of all the space they have available. In situations such as these, a concrete garage allows for the home owners to have a few more years out of their house by creating additional storage space, particularly if you don’t already have a shed or attic space for storage.

Alternative Working Area

Although it has been a trend to convert the garage area into a home office, why limit yourself to a table and chair? With hobbies such as wood work a concrete garage can provide you the space you need. But you don’t have to give up your whole concrete garage space, with a little creativity you can convert a corner or portion of your concrete garage into ample space. With access to electricity, sewing enthusiasts are able to set up their machines and not have to worry about packing everything away after each use. An added bonus of only using space in the concrete garage for craft projects means the mess in contained to one place and easier to clean up.

Personal Gym

A monthly gym membership can become expensive.Buying your own work out equipment is not the cheapest option for converting your concrete garage, but you can lower the costs of the renovation by purchasing the equipment second hand and only buying one item at a time. However, it may make you more motivated to work out and live healthier. With your own personal gym on your door step, you don’t have to worry what you look like or if anyone is watching you.You can work out in peace, wear whatever you like and not have to worry about the showers afterwards because you can have a bubble bath in your own home. Depending on your budget you could add wall mirrors or a water dispenser to the concrete garage to make it feel more gym like.

Band Practice Area

Although this may be a bit of an American cliché but rehearsal space can be hard to come by without paying an hourly rate. A concrete garage provides a free and convenient location for the band to play and practice. If you live in close proximity to your neighbours, the aspiring band members should ask nicely for their permission before cranking up the music.Although if it is a concern, cheap sound proofing can been fitted yourself.

There are virtually no limits when it comes to alternative uses for a garage. Sometimes, all that is needed is a little imagination and research in order to maximise your garage’s full potential.
