When this time of year arrives, what you most want is to take a bikini or a swimsuit and go to spend your vacations by the sea. The beach is synonymous with relaxation and enjoyment, but also has beneficial health properties that are unknown to most.

The sea water has more than 80 elements among which minerals such as zinc, iodine or potassium. In addition, it is also rich in microorganisms that produce antibiotic and antibacterial substances. In short, it is loaded with beneficial elements for human beings.

A beach vacation at Kiawah Island Getaways provides a sense of general well - being and reduces stress. Some of the minerals contained in the ocean are soothing elements with the ability to stabilize and maintain the levels of serotonin or melatonin. In this sense, a study from the University of Canterbury (New Zealand) noted that being close to the sea "improves mental health, whether it is in a large city or in a small fishing village. The important thing is to be next to the beach".

But the benefits of the sea not only remain in the psychological plane but, on a physical level, there are many properties that can be found in ocean water:

  • It favors the elimination of toxins from the lungs since it facilitates the drainage of mucus. Seawater counteracts the effects of environmental pollution in cities by helping to maintain active mucous membranes and the immune system.
  • It helps the heart, because when we are inside the water we are lighter and, therefore, the effort of the heart is less than outside of it.
  • It improves the circulation because the cold water acts on the capillaries contracting them, the reason why the blood flows more easily towards the heart.
  • It is good for the skin, as it acts as a natural exfoliant, eliminating dead cells and stimulating the generation of new ones. It also has very good effects on people with skin diseases, such as psoriasis, and helps to disinfect and heal wounds, as well as to improve their appearance.
  • Help recover from injuries. The iodine in the water relaxes the muscles and helps to improve the progress of certain injuries. In addition, taking a dip in the sea or wetting your feet while walking along the shore can reduce joint pain and help people with rheumatic problems.

In short, the sea is an inexhaustible source of health with multiple benefits for human beings. If you are lucky enough to live near it, it is highly recommended to go once a week, if only for a walk. If, on the contrary, the sea is far away, it will be advisable to go with some assiduity to take advantage of everything you have to offer us both psychologically and physically.
