How to Prepare for Your Corpus Christi TX Military Relocation

Written by Posted On Thursday, 12 April 2018 04:12

Military life means moving.

If you or a family member works for the military, then you are already familiar with the realities of a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move. Compared to a civilian relocation, a military relocation can be much more mentally strenuous.

It takes planning and organization in order to have a successful move. However, most families don’t have the luxury of taking months to pack up all their stuff.

Make sure that you are properly prepared by following these steps for a smooth PCS move to Corpus Christi TX:

1. Consult with your installation’s transportation office

The first step in your moving plan is to visit your installation’s transportation office. Your Transportation Office, sometimes called the Personal Property Office, will give you relocation briefing to let you know the details of your move. You will be oriented regarding the options you have when it comes to your move and what they will be able to do to help you.

2. Decide what kind of move you’re going to have

Decide if you want to have your move organized for you or if you want to do a personally procured move (PPM). If you choose to have your move scheduled, you need to request your pickup and drop off dates through your Transportation Office. If you go with a PPM, you can decide when the packers and movers come and go. Moreover, if you don’t end up using your entire budget, you can even make a little money.

3. Get rid of the stuff you don’t use

Go through your house and get rid of anything you won’t be needing anymore. It’s useless to spend time, money, and effort packing and transporting things that you don’t need or want.

You should also avoid accumulating more stuff before you move. If you need anything for your new home, do yourself a favor and wait until you get there.

4. Keep a list

Your Corpus Christi TX military relocation is certainly not without its stressors. However, you can stay calm and assured that all will go well if you keep good lists. Whether or not you are the one doing the packing, make sure to keep a list of all your boxes and their contents. Take special note of boxes you need to unpack first.

5. Work with a Military Relocation Specialist

Before your move, you will have to determine if you will have on-base housing or will need to buy a place for you and your family off-base. A military relocation specialist like me can help you find nearby homes that are military-friendly.

My goal is to make your move hassle-free and help you transition to your new home as easy as possible. We know that the news of a new duty station can come with very short notice and I can ensure that I’ll be ready to handle all your concerns regarding your military move.
