Going Through The Emotional Ups and Downs of Real Estate

Buying a house is an emotional process, especially for people who are buying their first home. If you can guess and understand the feelings your clients are going through, you can be a more understanding and helpful agent as they go through their journey. Here are some common feelings that people have when buying or selling a home.

Excited
When someone enters the housing market for the first time, they usually feel excited at first. Clients have been doing preliminary research online about their options and the market. They may be getting excited about the future and creating a dream or vision of what their future home could look like. Real estate agents can and should share their clients' excitement, but they should also make sure that their clients' plans are in line with their budget and the market.

Stressed Out and Overwhelmed
When clients start figuring out the numbers, applying for mortgages, and looking at houses, they may start to feel stressed and overwhelmed. The original dream of what it would be like to own a home might have to be rethought because of budget and availability issues. Mortgage insurance is an example of a rule that can be hard to understand. As a reliable real estate agent, your help can be comforting while all the numbers and paperwork are being worked out. You can point your clients to resources that can help them through the process, or you can make your own handouts and instructions.

Disappointed
Bidding wars may be getting less common, but your clients may still get into one when they buy a home. If they don't get the property, they might be disappointed by how much they want it. When your client falls in love with a home, this is an emotional process. They might need some time to figure things out on their own, but you can reassure them that their dream home is still out there waiting for them.

Accomplished
Once your clients have found and bought a property, they can get excited all over again about moving into their dream home and starting the next part of their lives. You can spread the happiness by giving your client a nice housewarming gift as a thank-you for letting you be a part of the process.
