Getting Your Home Ready To Sell

If you are trying to sell your home then you know how important it is to make sure that everything is in tip top shape before you put it on the market. The housing market is flooded with homes for sale right now so you will be competing with other sellers for potential buyers. Getting the right real estate agent will help you sell your home faster. Try to find one that is local and that has years of experience selling home so that you can get your home on the market and get it sold fast. However, your agent can only do so much so it’s going to be your responsibility to get your house ready to be sold.

The Lawn

When potential buyers first pull up to look at your house they are obviously going to notice your yard first. Keeping it mowed and free from weeds is a must but there are other things that you need to do to your yard as well. Ants can be a big problem, especially the Argentine Ant. They are known to be very aggressive and they will actually invade your yard and take over it by making the native ants leave. No one will buy a home that is infested with pests so you can get ant and weed killer at any home improvement store and then apply it to your yard. It may take several applications in order to get rid of them so make sure that you monitor closely. If you see the ants returning just apply more ant killer to the affected areas of the yard.

Driveway and Siding

Parking your car in the driveway will leave oil spots in your driveway over time and it makes it looks dirty. You can make your driveway look brand new by power washing it. You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on concrete for a new one just clean the one you have. The siding of your home can often get mildew and spider webs on it so after you are done power washing the driveway you can power wash the siding of your home too. To do both projects it will only take three or four hours and your house will look brand new.

Remove Clutter

Clutter in your home will take away the buyers ability to visualize the space as their own living space. Go through your entire home and remove any clutter or junk. Don’t put the clutter in the garage. You might want to think about renting a storage unit to put all the clutter in while you are selling your home. Any extra furniture that is in the home needs to be removed also. Too much furniture in your house can make it feel cramped and also make it look a lot smaller than it really is.

Paint

If you take a minute and look around at the walls in your home you will probably see marks and handprints all over them. A simple fix for this is to get a magic eraser and clean the walls. Magic erasers work when you get them wet and rub them over the affected area. Remember to lightly rub over the dirty area because rubbing too hard will remove the paint.

Cleanliness

If you are living in the home while it is on the market it’s imperative that you keep it as clean as possible. It may be difficult and require that you clean every day but if a buyer walks into a dirty home they will probably just walk away from it without making an offer. If you want to get top dollar for your home it has to be clean and stay clean until it is sold.
