San Clemente, CA is the southernmost beach city in Orange County, bordering on San Diego County. San Clemente Beach Camping
San Clemente Beach is widely visited as a popular place for camping in Orange County. While the beach is not your average wilderness setting for such an excursion, it’s a great place to sit around a campfire with family and friends to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty. Camping at San Clemente State Beach is perfect for all types of adventurers and outdoor lovers. Surfers flock to the north end of the beach and hikers are drawn to the trails along the bluffs. Picnic areas are available for visitors at the blufftop and trails snaking down to the beach allow everyone to enjoy a day of surf and sand.
Beach camping at San Clemente is available all year round, peak season running from April 1st to October 31st. Sites are equipped with full amenities including parking, showers, tables, fire pits and a water supply area. There are sites available for tent camping, trailers, families and large groups. Sites fill up during summer so make sure you get a reservation!
San Clemente Pier
The Historic San Clemente Pier is a great place to watch a surf competition, grab a bite to eat or simply take a stroll. Lined with fishers, indoor and outdoor restaurants and beach bunnies, the pier is a must visit spot during your trip to San Clemente. Also located on the pier is the Amtrack’s Pacific Surfliner station and Metrolink commuter rail station. Open daily from 4 a.m. to midnight, the pier offers free fishing and a great seat for a coastal sunrise or sunset.
Fun fact: During the prohibition era of the 1920’s and early 30’s, the San Clemente Pier was used to smuggle liquor into Orange County.
Just up the street from the San Clemente Pier on Avenida Del Mar and Calle Seville, you can visit the local farmer’s market the first Sunday of each month. It's a great way to support local growers, shop organic, get some fresh ocean air and enjoy the beach city lifestyle.
