We hear it all the time- waking up early can have some amazing benefits. Early risers are said to experience better productivity throughout the day, be more organized, and even healthier and happier than night owls. Instead of sleeping in, they spend those extra hours in the morning planning their day, exercising, and spending time with their family before starting the workday. And as it turns out, there are some nesting places across the US that are more ideal for early birds than others. Next Day Blinds decided to collect data on the number of early commuters, breakfast spots, coffee shops and gyms in several major cities and used these to determine which were the best.
Mesa, AZ
Located only 20 miles from Arizona’s state capitol, in the heart of Sonoran Desert, is the city of Mesa aka America’s number one town for early risers. At a whopping 40%, Mesa has the largest percentage of early morning commuters, who leave home before 7:00 AM. Along with being the number one city for morning people, it also happens to be the most populated suburban city in the entire US and third largest in the state of Arizona.
Long Beach, CA
Coming in second place is the lovely and lively coastal town of Long Beach, California. Of all the early bird cities on the list, Long Beach had the highest number of coffee shops per capita with just over 12 coffee shops for every 10,000 residents. But buyer beware, living here doesn’t come without cost. It’s prime beachfront locale and the fact that it’s just 30 minutes from Los Angeles makes for some steep home prices.
Las Vegas, NV
Many of us think about visiting Vegas, but fewer think about moving here. If you’re early to rise though, you may want to consider this desert oasis. Coming in 3rd place, Sin City has 7 coffee shops per capita and 32% of commuters leaving home before 7am. And don’t think a home in Vegas is out of your reach, there are plenty currently on the market and most are much more affordable than you’d think.
Atlanta, GA
Fourth place goes to the Gate City where over 35% of workers start their commute before 7am, making it a great home base for early risers. It’s also the perfect location for those wishing to have the best of both worlds. It’s a thriving city with lots to do downtown, but it’s also not far from lots of outdoor recreation opportunities and only an hour drive to the mountains. If the beach is your preferred place to unwind, you can find a few within a 4 hour drive.
Denver, CO
Last, but certainly not least is the Mile High City. This mountain lovers paradise has over 3 gyms and 5 coffee shops per capita, so it’s no wonder why early birds flock here. Denver’s housing market is a bit more competitive than others on the list and homes tend to be on the pricier side, but if you’re a winter sport enthusiast this is a great place to call home.
If you love rising before the sun every morning, you may want to consider living in a city that caters to your carpe diem lifestyle and surround yourself with people who value their time in the same way you do. Any of the cities above are great places to consider if you’re looking to move to a more morning friendly town.
