Chemistry
Finding something you have in common with the other person; I like to think of it as a fist bump. We can always find something, whether it’s professionally or personally, to connect with the other person. You golf, sew, garden, hobbies, children, lifestyle...there is always something!
Character
Who you really are. We can all put on an act for a while and attempt to impress, but eventually your true personality will show. Are you caring? Are you reliable? Are you relatable? That’s a big one.
Competence
Are you good at what you do, or are you just blowing smoke? People will challenge you to test your competence. Are you somebody I want or need in my life?
Consistency
Many of us look at a person and see consistency, whether in their job, the gym, their relationships. This is an important quality when considering adding a person to your life. We all desire consistency in our own life – display it!
Now let’s look at the, shall we say, bad side of my title: 3F’s. Too many times I hear from the public that they just wanted their commission check. I was 1,000 miles away from the Philadelphia housing market attending a social function when I started a conversation with a few people. After I told them what I did as far as supporting REALTORS®, both couples started sharing their stories. Unknown to either couple, both couples used the same REALTOR® to sell their homes before relocating to the Midwest. Hearing the same comment from both couples, “We were buds and I thought friends until she got paid and then gone.” Here are the 3F’s – hopefully not how you would describe yourself:
Find them
Online leads, social media, more than likely NOT referrals, due to the way you treated past clients after the sale.
Fleece them
Yes, get them to buy from you at any cost, promise anything even if you know you can’t deliver, always saying the right thing even knowing you can’t live up to what you are saying.
Forget them
Burn that bridge, hide from them when you see them. This is not a life I want or want somebody in my life like that!
I do hope you become a 4C, if you are not one already. Most professionals I run into are, or are close to being, a 4C. Yes, I have had 3Fs in my life who only wanted what they could get out of me, use me, abuse me then toss me aside. When I see them at functions I can tell they are very uncomfortable, but you know what? I’m NOT!
