6 Tips for decorating your vacation house

So vacation is around the corner and you would love to spend it in your getaway location. It can be a house that you bought or rented. If you have bought it, decorating your paradise can be a great adventure! But it can be challenging if it’s rented because you will be there temporarily so you might not want to exert much effort. But first, you need to know your budget so that you don’t strain because even with a small budget you can come up with a DIY home décor ideas and turn the place into a lovely paradise.

Since this is the place to relax, have fun and build memories with family and friends, the design should be classic and cool. Here are some of the decorating ideas that can help you come up with a lovely cozy home!

  1. Don’t overdo the theme of the house

If your vacation home is on the beach don’t over-decorate with seashells such that they are found everywhere in the house. Paint the walls with lovely colors and add some textures. Hang some paintings of beautiful landscapes on the walls. Have some tiles or wooden furnished floors which are durable, resistant to spills and are easy to clean and maintain.

  1. Stock your vacation kitchen according to your lifestyle

It is a good idea to have a well-equipped kitchen in your vacation home. You can enjoy your favorite food in this vacation home away from home! If you love baking, then be sure to have the baking pieces of equipment like; baking pans, mixer, measuring spoons, cups and of course an oven.

Other essentials are: coffee maker, plates, cups, glasses, spoons, forks, blender, wine glasses, and other kitchen utensils. If you plan on outdoor cooking, then remember to have a portable grill for your barbeque. Have cleaning detergents and scrubbers not forgetting a portable dishwasher. Remember to stock enough foodstuffs like cooking oil, salt, pepper, spices, rice, cereals, and sugar. Put them in airtight containers so that ants don’t get in. Refrigerator is also necessary for perishable stuff.

  1. Create a cozy living room

Invest in comfortable sofas with matching ottoman and a coffee table. You can look for washable slipcover fabrics for your sofas. The windows of the living room should be large enough to allow natural light to get in and to give you a lovely view of the outside as you relax on the couch. The décor of the vacation living room should not be overdone just paint the walls with a bright color, hang a few paintings on the wall have good curtains and hanging drapes plus a well-furnished floor and you are good to go! The rule is, keep it simple, clutter-free and clean.

  1. Furnish the bedroom

After having a good time outside and doing fun activities you will want to come and rest in a cozy and comfortable place. Have a comfortable mattress, good bed sheets and duvets, a dresser and a side table with a bedside lamp. Have plenty of fluffy pillows and good quality linens but don’t overspend on them just do it within your budget.

  1. Do something about your outdoor space!

You are going to spend most of your time in the outside; eating, relaxing and watching the kids play, warming yourselves in the fireplace or preparing your barbeque. You can have an umbrella and some furniture outside. Invest in comfortable chairs and a table. Plant some beautiful flowers in flowerpots or along the Veranda line of the house. You can also invest in some solar lighting for the outdoor to enjoy that outside breeze in the evening.

  1. Towels, Linen, and personal care products

Ensure that you carry enough bath towels and linens so that you don’t spend most of your time doing laundry. In the bathroom ensure there are enough toiletries; shampoos, soaps, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other ointments that are necessary.

Decorating your vacation house is very important as it creates a new and relaxing atmosphere. Choose a plan that matches the surrounding environment of your house. If it’s on the beach then you may need seashells and whitewashed furniture. Whichever plan you choose it doesn’t have to drain you financially. You can even take some of the stuff that you no longer use in your primary home instead of buying brand new ones.
